Ourika Rug 155/103
OURIKA
My latest crush… Ourika rugs: the most beautiful, traditional wool Berber rugs with a colorful modern twist. We bought soooo many!
The base is always white / natural, with a contrasting checkered and zigzag pattern that is unique every time. They are true works of art…
We bought both the small sizes (which are super cute for the baby room, for example) and the large sizes that give your living room a lovely warm glow.
- hand-knotted wool rug
- originated from the mind of a Berber lady, no fixed pattern is followed
- unique piece, there are no two in this world
- origin: Ourika
- typical feminine symbolism of diamonds
- ca 1m50 x 1m
- main colours: creamy white with accents of green, light blue, orange and yellow
- mixed techniques: woven kilim on both sides
FAIR TRADE
During my purchasing trips to Morocco I always look for beautiful, unique pieces that fit nicely within our concept. I work with trustworthy suppliers who provide work to hundreds of women in the mountain areas. And I bid with the local merchants on the criée berbère of the carpet souks in the heart of Marrakech, skipping most intermediate channels!
MAINTENANCE ADVICE
Each rug is hand washed and (if necessary) repaired in Morocco before being shipped to Belgium. Any restorations were done by hand by skilled artisans in the traditional methods and with materials to best suit its origins.
Rugs should be vacuumed regularly, and occasionally hung outside in the sunshine and fresh air to freshen them up and get rid of any loose dirt. We recommend only ever using mild soapy water to spot clean your carpet. Chemical cleaners and vintage textiles are definitely not friends - so keep cleaning simple and to the basics.
If your rug is in need of a deeper clean due to spills or wear, contact a professional rug cleaning service in your area.
HANDMADE
Due to their handwoven and unique nature - irregularities in shape and colour can be expected, and are what add to their beauty, character and value.
